Next talks between League, Players Association could be on Wednesday -NHL Update
The lockout has come into play as most of the people had expected and days have also passed, but the National Hockey League (NHL) and NHL Players Association (NHLPA) is still completely silent over the matter.
According to recent reports by a number of insider sources, the NHL and NHLPA might just meet for the first time in nearly a week to discuss what the next step should be of both sides this coming Wednesday.
While the entire entourage from both sides is not expected to be at the first official meeting since the lockout came into force, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr are to be present and do a one-on-one talk like they
have done so many times in the past.
Everyone realises the fact that the most people to suffer are obviously the fans but hopefully, both sides will be able to work out their differences before a season comes into play in order to start the regular season on time.
"This is a time of year for all attention to be focused on the ice, not on a meeting room," the league said, according to freep.com. "The league, the clubs and the players all have a stake in resolving our bargaining issues appropriately and getting the
puck dropped as soon as possible. We owe it to each other, to the game and, most of all, to the fans."
A number of players came out and talked to their fans through video messages, including Pittsburgh Penguins captain, Sidney Crosby, Chicago Blackhawks’ Jonathan Toews and Colorado Avalanche’s newly named captain, Gabriel Landeskog.
"We understand the people that suffer the most are the fans," Crosby said.
While the league has come out a number of times through its official website that they are willing to continue dealing with the NHLPA, the labour union has not made its stance clear up until now and there is no clear message they are sending out for a proposed
meeting on Wednesday.
Updates should be expected on Wednesday as both sides reportedly are preparing for their first meeting on a fourth lockout in just 20 years of the NHL.
