Next targets for Musir in the Dubai World Cup Carnival after winning the Al Maktoum Challenge Round 1 on 12th January
De Kock trained Musir has left no doubts whatsoever, after winning the opening race of the Al Maktoum Challenge on 12th January at Meydan, that he has very clearly settled himself on the benchmark that gets him going for the
Group 1 $5 million Dubai Duty Free, to be held towards the final stages of the Dubai World Cup Carnival, on the 31st of March.
De Kock’s trainee, Musir, was nick named as ‘ star performer’ for the evening by his jockey, which was true in every sense of the word as the six-year-old bay horse of Redoute’s Choice out of Dizzy De Lago did not only upset the Godolphin Racing entry,
Secretavie, rather also upset last year’s winner of the race, Mendip, in fourth position.
Not only competing with horses of such caliber, but also defeating them decently was a milestone for Musir.
"Obviously we are delighted with that and Musir is a much stronger horse than he was in his Classic year and again from last year”, said the South African trainer at the Dubai World Cup Carnival.
"We will also look at the Zabeel Mile perhaps and/or the Jebel Hatta on Super Saturday as his next races”.
Out of the thirteen races that the six-year-old has run till now, he has won seven times, and finished on the money five times at different instances.
This is a third time that Musir has won coupled with Christophe Soumillon at Meydan. On 18th February, Musir won the Group 3 UAE 2,000 Guineas, sponsored by Shadwell Estate, at the Meydan.
Next, on 27th March at the Meydan, Musir won the UAE Derby, sponsored by Saeed & Mohammed Al Naboodah.
"I am so pleased to win here again on this horse who really is one of my favourites as he gave me my first big winners here in Dubai”, said the proud jockey.
Another horse that has been considered for the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free by his trainer Roger Charlton is Cityscape. He last posted a victory in the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Mile. He has been able to amass five wins out of his sixteen career starts.
The Group 1 Dubai Duty Free was won by, Presvis last year, who was ridden by Ryan Moore and was under Luca Cumani’s charge.
Who gets to hold the prestigious title this year will be disclosed on 31st March, 2012, and after further entries are announced.
