Next to MJ isn't Bill Russell the luckiest player in the NBA?

MJ had Pippen, but Bill had had 4 hall of famers for his first 8 rings. Tommy Heinsoln and KC jones, Cousy, Sam Jones, were the ones' that helped get Russell those first 8 rings. He probably would only have about 4 rings if it wasn't for that great supporting cast.

Kobe and Magic was. Kobe had Shaq as a rookie and Magic have Kareem. Both had sterling centers at the very start how could you go wrong. You should rephrase your question because Pippen was lucky Jordan was already an emerging superstar when he came in.

Kobe can't hold a candle to Jordan, Michael was a top scorer and won the award as the leagues best defender multiple times.  You are right, no one player no matter how good he is can win by him self, he needs a talented team to compliment him.  Otherwise LeBron James would already have won a championship and Kobe would have won one with out Shaq on the team.
