Our drama department has a serious dilemma regarding a spring production for next year. Now mind you I'm not interested in suggestions like Wicked or Legally Blonde because the rights arent out for those shows and plus they arent high school level shows.

This past spring we put on Urinetown: The Musical. We've also done Thoroughly Modern Millie, Once Upon a Mattress, How to Succeed in Buisness Without Really Trying... shows like that. I'd like something along those lines. THANX ^_^

  1. Aida I love that show do Aida

  2. Les miserables, the scarlet pimpernil ( the besttt!), high school musical???? ( my high school did it! ), a sunday in the park with george.

i hope you come up with one!

  3. Grease, High School Musical's One and Two (my High school did this one and we had a great turnout), Little Shop Of Horror's, Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Les Miserable, Mama Mia, Dreamgirls, Mary Poppins, or Cinderella are good ones.

  4. - Guys and Dolls - great songs, great characters, lots of parts, a lot of fun, plus the guys get to wear really sharp suits!  A show you never get sick of.

    - The Wizard of Oz.  Don't write it off as a kids' show!  The RSC version is far superior to the MUNY version - much closer to the film.  Again, great characters, lots of parts and lots of fun

    - Oklahoma! A classic for schools.  Personally I like the music (some don't!) and it's a good choice for schools as you can have a seriously big cast and still have it work very well - plus if you've got any particularly great dancers you can showcase that in the dream ballet

    - Beauty and the Beast; being done more and more by schools now.  Tricky to costume, but if you can get past that it's a lovely show

    - West Side Story.  You need an amazing Tony and Maria (singing wise they're difficult) but it's a classic for a reason.  There are also non-singing parts if you have some great actors who can't sing very well.

    - Little Shop of Horrors - if you want a smaller cast.  Brilliant music, and the Ronettes are great sassy female parts.

    - Into the Woods.  It's not easy to sing, but it's a fabulous show if you can pull it off.  Again, lots of parts and of course, amazing music.  It's really the only Sondheim which is do-able by a school.

  5. Into the woods

Your a good man charlie brown is a really fun one

    les miserables

one thats reallly hard is sweeney todd i did it last spring (was a freshman last year) and had the most amazing experiance.. but the music requires such strong vocals..... so i dunno about that one.....

    camelot

    spamelot (haha that ones funny)

  6. Wow..pretty broad ground to work from!  Probably over-done, but still excellent for HS productions is "Forty-second Street."  "Anything Goes" seems to fit with other choices your school has made.  "Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?" is a fun show for HS, as is "How to Eat Like A Child."

  7. INTO THE WOODS!!!!!!!!! OMG, that musical is amazing! My school did it last fall, and it is one of my favorite plays.
