it is my understanding that the rule change is that teams can now defer to receive the ball at halftime. but isnt this the same as before? because under the old rule, if team A wins the coin tolls and elects to kick the ball at the start of the game then team A would receive the ball at the start of third.

is this adding of a defer option make any difference? wouldn't kicking the ball at the start of the game the same thing as choosing to defer to receive the ball at the start of third?

  1. If you win the toss and you decide to defer then you get to decide if you want to kick or recive at the start of the third quarter

  2. if the old rule was like high school football, if you choose to do anything in the first half (kick or receive) the other team gets to choose in the second.  so if you choose to kick in the first the other team would most likely choose to recieve in the secocnd and you would be stuck kicking twice.

  3. are you kidding me this is the same as always if you play madden it says kick, recive, defend >, or defend<

  4. If you choose to kick the ball in the first half, you will be receiving the ball in the second half and vice versa. Always been like that.

  5. Well, lots of times people say they want to receive at halftime after they win the toss, so they pick that option. It's not anything different though. They pretty much just chose to kick.
