Ng Chin Chai unhappy with Gan Teik Chai - Tan Bin Shen’s letter to BAM – Badminton news
Ng Chin Chai, secretary of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), is unhappy with the protest letter that Men’s Doubles shuttlers, Gan Teik Chai and Chai Tan Bin wrote to the president of BAM.
The secretary has asked the Badminton Associations of Kedah and Selangor to conduct an inquiry, as the move seems to be inappropriate on the part of the players. The shuttlers should have gone to their local associations to forward their matter, instead
of writing directly to the president of BAM.
World Number 24, Teik Chai and Tan Bin, were treated unfairly by BAM as the body did not send them to contest at the 2011 World Championships, despite of the fact that they qualified for the tournament on merit. They were replaced by lower ranked Mohd Zakry
Abdul Latif and Hoon Thien How for participation in the mega event. In their letter, the shuttlers criticised the unfair policy of BAM for independent players of Malaysia.
Ng Chin has advised the local associations to look into the matter seriously, as it is denting the reputation of BAM. The allegations of shuttlers over the governing body are also quite challenging.
The BAM secretary asked the Kedah and Selangor governing bodies to take action by saying, “As the players are under your state BA, it is up to your state BA to decide whether to call for an inquiry to determine whether the players have committed misconduct
and whether to impose disciplinary measures against them.”
Ng Chin further added that in future, clear directions will be revealed for qualification at the 2012 London Olympics, to avoid any problem like the current one.
After receiving the letter sent by Ng Chin, the Selangor Badminton Association president, V. Subramaniam said, “We received the letter from Chin Chai but there is no basis to take disciplinary action as Teik Chai-Bin Shen are fighting for their right.”
The president of Kedah Badminton Association, Teoh Teng Chor, said that there are no clear guidelines for taking any kind of action against the shuttlers. However, he said that they will have a meeting to look into the matter.
