Ng h*i Lin-Ng h*i Ern will remain national players, says BAM secretary Ng Chin Chai – Badminton news
Ng Chin Chai, the secretary of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), has made it clear that the Women’s Doubles shuttlers, Ng h*i Lin and Ng h*i Ern, will still remain the national players despite leaving the national squad to continue their studies
in England.
The World Number 39 duo left for England as they have got admission in the Loughborough University to continue their studies in the subject of Economics, which will be a three-year degree. However, while studying in England, Ng sisters will also remain in
touch with badminton as they will continue their training over there at the university.
Chin Chai said that the shuttlers will spend seven months in England and five months in Malaysia in one year. They will join the national squad for training when they stay in Malaysia for five months.
h*i Lin and h*i Ern have represented Malaysia in major international tournaments and have played tremendous badminton. In the recent World Championships, the duo performed well and made it to the Women’s Doubles second round. They also emerged as the finalists
in the 2010 India Open Grand Prix Gold.
The talented shuttler, h*i Lin, was a part of the Malaysian team in the 2009 SEA Games and won the gold medal for the country.
While talking about the facilities at the Loughborough University, Chin Chai expressed that it has good facilities for the shuttlers.
He said, “The university is also known for it’s good badminton programme. Former international Mike Adams is the head coach and h*i Lin and h*i Ern will benefit from his coaching.”
However, Chin Chai made it clear that Ng sisters will not be given any benefits, which they have been enjoying while training in the national squad.
He said, “They will not enjoy any benefits or perks as national players under this arrangement. We want them to pursue their tertiary studies but, at the same time, we want to support them in their sporting career. They are young and can still serve the
country.”
The BAM secretary also expressed that Ng sisters will get equal opportunities to represent Malaysia in international events if they remain successful in getting the attention of the coaches in the national set up.
