Ng Ka Long Angus surges into quarter-finals of the Badminton Asia Youth U-19 Championships 2011
Hong Kong’s top junior shuttler, Na Ka Long Angus booked his berth in the Men’s Singles quarter-finals as he has brushed aside Indonesia’s Subagja Riyanto, in the pre-quarter-final of the Badminton Asia Youth U-19 Championships 2011, in India, on Thursday,
July 7.
Long Angus played to his full potential against the third seed, Riyanto and won the match after putting up a tremendous show of top-class badminton for three-sets of 48 minutes. The stunning performance of the Hong Kong shuttler earned him a place in the
top-8 shuttlers of the event.
The Indonesian was the favourite on paper, as he was the third seed in the Men’s Singles draw. However, the un-seeded Long Angus sent him packing after a thrilling fight. In the opening set, Riyanto was in complete control of the game by playing with precision.
The Indonesian was in superb flow and his movement in the court was quite smooth. Long Angus was finding it hard to place his strokes into the gaps of his challenger’s court. He made many mistakes and lost the first game with a margin of 17-21, in 18 minutes.
In the following set, Long Angus made an impressive come back as he played an attacking game of the highest class. His powerful jump smashes destroyed the defence of the Indonesian, who was struggling hard to pick the perfectly placed powerful smashes of
Long Angus. The Hong Kong player levelled the match by grabbing the second game with a margin of 21-15, in 16 minutes.
Surprisingly, the deciding set of the match was one-sided as Long Angus played on a different level. He took the speed of the game to the highest level, indicating that he is prepared to thrash the Indonesian. Riyanto failed to maintain the pace of his rival
throughout the whole final game.
Long Angus sailed easily in the third set without facing any notable resistance from the Indonesian and won the set with a big margin of 21-11, in just 14 minutes. The rubber-set 48-minute match ended with a 17-21, 21-15 and 21-11 score on the board.
