Ngoni skipper Kevin Sproul happy with team’s performance in 2011 Region of Murcia Trophy, Cartagena
Great Britain’s Ngoni retained their overall lead in Soto 40 series fleet at the 2011 Region of Murcia Trophy in Cartagena, Spain, at the end of Day 3 after five races. British team’s skipper helm, Kevin Sproul, is quite satisfied with his crew’s performance
so far and believes they will continue sailing consistently during the event to claim the title.
Ngoni led the event standings from Day 2 after they clinched the only race of the day. The weather conditions on Day 3 were unlikely stronger than the previous two days which made the sail more thrilling. The winds blew around 11 to 15 knots after the start
of Race 1 and built gradually up to 17 knots at the end of the day.
Ngoni took the first two races convincingly with the help of a sensible sail, however, they slipped down at number two in the last race to finish the day on top with seven points. Soto 40 leader in Audi MedCup Circuit, Iberdrola Team, secured second place
with 12 points. Ngoni’s skipper helm, Kevin Sproul feels happy with their achievement so far.
While speaking to local media at the end of Day 3, Sproul said, “This is the first regatta where there had been a bit less wind and it has been a chance to work the boat hard, the same for the some of the other boats. We have learned a lot from Iberdrola,
we have watched them they are very good and slick, and they are always very good on the start line and so we have focussed on getting at least as good a start as them.”
The overall standings of Soto 40 Series after five races:
1. Ngoni (GBR) 2, 1, 1, 1, 2 = 7 points
2. Iberdrola Team (ESP) 4, 2, 2, 3, 1 = 12 points
3. NH Resorts (ESP) 1, 3, 3, 2, 3 = 12 points
4. Patagonia by the Australian Team (AUS) 3, 4, 5, 4, 4 = 20 points
5. cruiser-racer.com (ESP) 5, 5, 4, 5, 5 = 24 points
