Nguyen Tien Minh beats Tommy Sugiarto in Men’s Singles first round of 2011 French Open Super Series
Vietnam’s Nguyen Tien Minh reserves his place in the Men’s Singles second round after beating Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto in the first round of the 2011 French Open Super Series, in Paris, on Wednesday, October 26.
The World Number Seven, Tien Minh overpowered the Indonesian in a straight-set match as he played terrific badminton and finished off the fight in just 37 minutes. Sugiarto played well in the opening set but not enough to get rid of his higher ranked rival.
In the first game, both men put up superb show of attacking badminton and entertained the crowd with their elite skills. However, Tien Minh took the first game with a narrow margin. The second set was completely one-sided as the Vietnamese remained in complete
control and won it easily.
The seventh seed Tien Minh has been playing well on consistent basis for the last one year. He has attained a certain level of skills and displays an entertaining show of top class badminton. He played to his full potential against the in-form Indonesian
shuttler and emerged as the winner in two sets.
The Vietnamese opened his campaign in the event in an impressive way. The opening game of the match was thrilling when both shuttlers kept the pace at the maximum level by playing aggressive game. They missed no chance to take one points after the other.
Until the break, nobody could make a clear lead.
After the break, the match progressed in the similar close fashion as both players were playing positive and attacking game. Nevertheless, Tien Minh played composed and planned game in the end and won the set with a close score of 22-20.
In the second game, the Vietnamese employed his cross-court smashes and got a considerable advantage as his strokes landed in the perfect areas. Meanwhile, the Indonesian dropped his speed which helped the higher ranked Tien Minh to take a good lead in the
first half.
After the interval, Tien Minh remained focused and spared no room for his challenger to fight back in the game. The Vietnamese finished off the second set with a 21-14 score on the board. The overall result of this first-round battle was 22-20 and 21-14.
