Nguyen Tien Minh continues his dominating performance at Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold
Vietnam’s top player and World Number 11 Nguyen Tien Minh showed a strong character in Men’s Singles second round when he tamed Anand Pawar of India at the 2012 Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold in Malaysia, on Thursday, May 3.
Tien Minh, who is second seed in the event, has been single-handedly serving Vietnam for the last one-decade and has got an elevated position in Men’s Singles world placements.
While playing in the second round of Malaysia Open, Tien Minh was quite confident in his approach as he was quicker in all areas and eventually won the fight in two games with a decent margin.
On the other hand, Pawar worked really hard for 36 minutes to put up strong show but failed to escape defeat from the hands of his higher ranked Vietnamese opponent.
Tien Minh started his journey against Pawar in a dominating manner as he played planned badminton and remained in complete control.
In the meanwhile, Pawar tried to control the pace in the opening points but failed to place his shots accurately. Until the one-minute break, the Indian was trailing far behind of his Vietnamese challenger at 6-11.
After the mid-game break, Tien Minh started to commit uncharacteristic errors which helped Pawar to narrow the gap. The Indian managed to reach at 18-18 by playing tremendous game at this stage.
The score reached at the crucial stage of 20-20 when Tien Minh showed his convincing play and grabbed the remaining two points to win the set with a 22-20 margin on the board.
In the second game, Tien Minh was on a higher level as he played perfect game leaving no room for his rival to take advantage of. He was sailing smoothly by reaching at 11-5 until the break.
After the mid-game break, Tien Minh continued his positive and roller-coaster performance without facing any interruption from Pawar who was not playing at his best.
Tien Minh finished off the second game with a spectacular 21-11 score on the board.
The second seeded Vietnamese won this straight-set encounter in just 36 minutes by a convincing 22-20 and 21-11 score on the board.
