Nguyen Tien Minh lucky to enter into third round of the 2011 World Championships
Vietnam’s ace shuttler, Nguyen Tien Minh remained extremely lucky in his match as he escaped defeat from the hands of talented Indian shuttler, P Kashyap in the Men’s Singles second round of the 2011 World Championships, at the Wembley Arena, on Wednesday,
August 10.
Tien Minh, who is World Number Seven and also the seventh seed in the Men’s Singles draw of the mega event, was struggling against the spirited Indian throughout the encounter, however, he remained lucky to win the match at the end with a tight margin.
Right from the start of this fascinating fight, both shuttlers delivered a tremendous performance by playing fast badminton. They were playing at the same level and the score progressed slowly without giving anyone a clear lead. The Vietnamese was going
ahead at 11-10 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, both players again played wonderful badminton and it was the Indian who first reached the set point. However, the higher ranked Tien Minh gave a tremendous fight and won the opening set by a margin of 24-22, in 29 minutes.
The second set was completely dominated by the Indian, who showed his class by playing planned badminton. He pushed Tien Minh in the right corner of the rear court and earned many points by getting loose clears. Kashyap made a tremendous run in this set
and committed no mistakes this time. Tien Minh played negative badminton in this set and lost it with a 17-21 score, in 25 minutes.
Kashyap dominated the final set by using his wonderful skills and maintained a good gap throughout the game. He played with great precision and forced his opponent to make mistakes by playing hasty strokes.
Kashyap was just one point away from victory as he reached at 20-15, when the Vietnamese spoiled the party for the Indian as he remained consistent and did not give up, which helped him in scoring seven points in a row to convert his assumed defeat into
victory.
Tien Minh clinched the final set with a 22-20 margin in 27 minutes. This Men’s Singles fascinating fight ended in 81 minutes with a 24-22, 17-21 and 22-20 score on the board.
