Nguyen Tien Minh punishes Gobinathan Ashwant in Men’s Singles at Sudirman Cup – Badminton news
Vietnam’s veteran shuttler Nguyen Tien Minh put up spectacular show of flawless badminton in Men’s Singles clash and outplayed Australia’s Gobinathan Ashwant at the Sudirman Cup 2013 on Tuesday, May 21, in Malaysia.
The experienced Tien Minh has been leading his country at international stage for a prolonged period of more than 15 years. He was in complete command of rallies throughout the match and ended it up in a stunning way in just 22 minutes.
Tien Minh entered into the court with aggressive approach. He did not miss any chance of earning points and managed to wind up this match in straight sets with a spectacular margin of 21-6 and 21-5.
Meanwhile, the inexperienced Gobinathan had no reply to the aggressive play of his in-form challenger. He failed to find his momentum and ultimately crashed out without leaving a considerable total on the board.
It was a one-sided match on paper because Tien Minh is one of the best players in the world and his opponent has barely introduced himself at international stage. The extensive experience of Tien Minh was the main difference between both shuttlers.
In the first game, it was Tien Minh who started his run in a confident way and kept the pace of rallies at the highest level. He showed no mercy to his opponent and built a huge lead at the initial stage.
The powerful down-the-line smashes coupled with spinning net shots enabled Tien Minh to control the affairs of the game and he set up a huge lead until the break.
After the one-minute interval, Tien Minh maintained his supremacy on score board by playing to his maximum potential. He continued moving around his rival and took the first game with a lopsided margin of 21-6.
In the second game, Gobinathan tried to show his brilliance in opening rallies but failed to create any difference as his opponent was on the driving seat. Until the break, it was the Vietnamese who took a wonderful lead.
After the interval, Tien Minh remained consistent in his smooth sailing in the arena and he bagged the second set easily with an inspiring margin of 21-5.
