Nhl 2007-2008 season epic breakdowns?

so i've already heard it said many times by sports reporters, and i also believe that this will happen, but i think this has been one of the most interesting nhl seasons. we all know the east is weak and really #1 was wide open, but the pittsburgh penguins are the last ones standing from their conference. the west is always a tough battle, but the red wings were the top overall nhl team this year. the story line for these two teams if they meet in the sc finals will be historic...but there are some other historical moments from this years nhl season, and they'll go down in sports history.

1) the breakdown of the ottawa senators who set an NHL record for the best start to a season after 14 games, who were the team to beat for this years stanley cup playoffs in the east and were havily favoured to meet with detroit in the finals, but instead they were obliterated by the pens in the first round.

  1. I think Ottawa's collapse would be more significant. Even if Detroit were to lose to the Penguins. I for one, would not call it a choke job by the Wings if they did lose. The Penguins are, in my opinion, the better team. And choking is when you lose to a team that is worse than you. The Sens choked hard because they were swept and they managed to fall so far down the standings after being the best team at the start of the year. I doubt anything that happens in the finals will surpass the Sens' choke-job. Not even the Heimlich maneuver could have saved them lol.

  2. this is the longest question i have ever seen

  3. The ottawa part isnt that big.

The Detroit part would probably be one of the worst in sports history..it wont happen though!

What's wrong with you? If you dont recall the stars led the sharks 3-0, only to win in 6. The wings have not choked yet.  Pens sweep if they face the stars.

  4. 3) the destruction of the devils by the rangers

    im still crying

detroit is already in history, the blew a 3-0 lead back in 1975. itll just be a flashback. i would only use choke if detroit was to lose the next 2 games. they are still ok right now

  5. 2 notable breakdowns were the Carolina Hurricanes and Vancouver Canucks during the final weeks.  The Canes losing their last 3 of 5 games and a pivotal game against the Panthers AT HOME to lose out on the division title while the  Nucks losing the last 4 of their 5 games including the final 3 HOME games to get shoved out of the playoff race in the West.  Ouch!

--EDIT-- oops, jumped the gun on your question.

For some reason, i still don't see choke associated with the Wings.  But man, if Dallas wins the series, i'd have to seriously consider.

-I do think the Pens have the capabilities to win it all, but the Wings will be their toughest challenge this entire playoffs.

-I actually prefer a Wings vs Pens matchup instead.

  6. how about the sabres they made confrence finals 2 yrs straight. AND WON THE PRESIDENTS TROPHY

Than they LOST BRIERE AND DRURY TO FREE AGENCY

AND EVERYONE THOUGHT THEY WOULD COME BACK

THEY EVEN HAD THE 2nd outdoor game game and set a record for most people in attendance for a Profesional hockey game.

they didnt even make the playoffs

  7. 4) How about the Ducks? They kind of started off slow, and then powerhoused their way to 4th seed in the 2nd half of the season with the return of Salanne and Neidermayer, just to get knocked out first round by Dallas. Then Neidermayer got fined for not attending training camp the previous summer, and now the Ducks co owner Henry Samueli is under investigation for backdating stock options.

oh and the Wings weren't necessarily the Stanley Cup favorites this year....a lot more analysts were counting on Anaheim and San Jose in the Conference Finals for the West.

And why are you assuming that the Wings are out of the playoffs? They are up 3-2 in the series...I highly doubt they will lose 2 more in a row. And choke? No no no...it would be choking if they were out the first or second round, but once you make it to the conference finals, you are no longer eligible to choke.

I think that Osgood and Turco are neck and neck. They are both solid goaltenders who can be their team's best weapon or worst asset on any given night. I think Turco gets more props because he is on a worse team, so people expect him to come up larger with bigger saves, which for the most part, he does. He is also a more flashy goaltender than Osgood with his fancy stick handling and cross-ice passes.

  8. Geez, its not like Detroit lost two games to the LA Kings man, its the Dallas Stars.  The team who beat Anaheim and San Jose.  Losing two games to a good team is not the end of the world.  Just because they won the first three means nothing.  Would we be saying the same thing if it was 3-2 and it went 2-2-1.  NOPE.  The Wings dominated the first three games, and played well enough to win game 4, and badly outshot, but were evenly matched in game 5.  Detroit is far from throwing in the towel, they just need to respond to the changes Dallas made.  Detroit will be fine.

  9. Ottawa an epic breakdown?   Na thats just Ottawa being Ottawa
