http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 wicketkeeper’s Niall O' Brien’s sports kit go missing
The cricket kit of Ireland’s wicketkeeper Niall O’ Brien has reportedly gone missing in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. It is not yet clear if the kit has been stolen or has been misplaced. The kit contained six bats.
Talking to the local media, Ireland team’s media manager Barry Chambers said, “One of the bags, belonging to Niall, wasn't found after we reached the hotel last night. We have still not found it and will not know about it until later tonight when all our
stuff arrives here.”
Niall O’ Brien said he had asked the ground staff to load two of his bags onto the bus after Ireland’s match against India, but found one of them missing on reaching the hotel. O’ Brien has filed a complaint with the local police. The police say that an
official investigation has been launched into the matter.
The Irish management has informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) about the alleged theft, which in turn has contacted the host association – the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). However, KSCA president http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anil-Kumble-c44737 said he had yet to be
informed of the alleged theft. He said he had no information about the case or the whereabouts of the kit.
Local Indian media quoted an unnamed ICC official as saying that the Irish team had lodged a complaint with the global cricket body and it had in turn, contacted the KSCA about the incident. “This has been brought to our notice and we have informed the KSCA.
Hopefully, what is missing will be recovered. At this stage, we can't say more about it. We can't say whether it's a case of theft or the bag got misplaced,” he said.
Normally, cricketers leave their kits at the playing venues from where they are sent to the teams’ hotels by the local organisers. This may be the first incident of a cricketer’s kit being stolen from the ground.
There is a possibility that the bag containing the bats might have been accidently left back at the stadium. However, this is not what O’Brien would hope for because most cricketers prefer to play with their own customised bats and other equipment. If the
bats are not found, O’ Brien might find it uncomfortable to play in the remaining matches of the tournament with someone else’s equipment.
