Nic Graesser clinches Men’s 50m backstroke gold – YMCA National Championship
Nic Graesser of Upper Main Line-PA clinched gold medal of the Men’s 50m backstroke on closing day of the 2012 YMCA National Long Course Championship at Georgia Institute of Technology Aquatics Center on Friday, July 27.
The 18-year-old Graesser lived up to the expectations of his supporters by snaring gold medal of the single lap backstroke discipline.
With his unrelenting efforts, Graesser stayed one arm-stroke ahead of his closest competitor and hit the finishing wall for first position with the timing of 26.01 seconds.
Graesser was chased by Gregoriy Tarasevich of Orlando-FL, who was only 0.19 seconds apart and secured second fastest spot of the discipline by producing a time of 26.20 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Sam Lynch of Red Bank-NJ, who stayed 1.21 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and touched the wall with an effort of 27.41 seconds for bronze medal.
Subsequently, Lynch enjoyed an advantage of 0.01 seconds over Dylan Sali of Somerset Valley NJ, who finished fourth in the discipline by producing a time of 27.42 seconds.
Sali was trailed by Taylor Adams of Wyckoff-NJ, who suffered a deficit of 0.27 seconds from his and transpired on the finishing blockade for fifth best place with the timing of 27.69 seconds.
The 18-year-old Adams was chased by Tristan Sanders of Suncoast-FL, who was almost half body length behind and occupied sixth finest spot of the discipline by clocking an effort of 28.16 seconds.
Similarly, Sanders remained 0.06 seconds away from Aaron Athanas of North Shore-MA, who surfaced on the finishing blockade as seventh position holder by producing a time of 28.22 seconds.
Eighth position of the race was gained by Jin Roh of Wyckoff-NJ, who stayed 0.02 seconds slower and finished eighth in the event with the timing of 28.24 seconds.
Roh was followed by Eric Kim of Wyckoff-NJ and Jack Fergus of Kishwaukee-IL, who ended their swims in ninth and tenth place with timings of 28.40 and 28.44 seconds respectively.
Furthermore, Graesser was overjoyed with his scintillating form in the event and said that he wishes to continue the same in future events.
