Nicaragua and El Salvador clinch success in the XVI Women’s Central American Cup openers
The XVI Women’s Central American Volleyball Cup is underway in Panama City. The campaign started off on Sunday, November 28 and the volleyball action will be continued till December 4, 2010. The opening day of the championship featured three matches. In
the first match of the day, El Salvador’s brilliant team clashed with Honduras. The incredible combat revealed the final results after three-set game. El Salvador’s team proved to be better team and snatched first-match victory from Honduras.
El Salvador vs. Honduras 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, and 25-18)
The match opened with an exchange of perfect serves from both sides. The teams had done their home work and performed in a great way. The vibe of game could be felt by the cheering crowd. The fans screamed at the top of their lungs and enjoyed every bit
of the game. First set of the game initiated with a see-saw battle. Both sides regularly traded the lead and didn’t waste any chance to steal points from each other. However, El Salvador sparked on the scene as they successfully captured the first set by posting
25-22.
The victory defined a clear route for El Salvador. They continued hitting in the same direction and didn’t allow Team Honduras to stay on their feet. The better defence and attack capability of El Salvador’s team enabled them to secure the second set as
well. El Salvador became stronger and more confident after winning the opening sets. They entered the third set with an ambition to end the game in third set. Honduras’ squad suffered the set back and failed to overcome the deficit of two sets. El Salvador
swiftly moved ahead and celebrated the victory in opening match of the XVI Women’s Central American Cup.
The head coach of El Salvador, Jose Andres commented after the match, “The level is equalled and anyone can win. Against Honduras we managed to take advantage of the key moments for the victory.”
The captain of losing side, Estela Duron regretted about the defeat. She expressed her thoughts, “We tried to keep a good level in our game but we couldn’t close the sets and that was the difference.” 
Nicaragua vs. Guatemala 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, and 25-20)
The second match on Sunday, November 28 brought Nicaragua and Guatemala in the court. It was generally believed that Guatemala had better team line-up and it would be an easy task for them to pull off victory. However, the ground realities begged a difference
as Nicaragua clean swept Guatemala in straight sets.
Guatemala’s team started out well in the game and hit some blazing speedy spikes. Nicaragua played a natural game and didn’t take any pressure of the situation. Guatemala couldn’t make huge difference and the score soared up with close difference. Gradually,
Nicaragua’s team came out of sheep cloths and attacked like hungry wolf. They captured the first set and stunned Guatemala.
Afterwards, Nicaragua never stopped and continued throwing the ball in Guatemala’s half with firm hands. Guatemala struggled to break their rhythm but Nicaragua refused to lose the tempo. They worked out excellent shots and won the second set with a margin
of 9 points. Guatemala suffered the set back and failed to return in the game. Nicaragua kept an upper hand on their opponents and claimed victory in the third set.
The captain girl of Nicaragua, Noguera was overjoyed with the victory against resilient rivals Guatemala. She disclosed her thoughts after the match. She said, “We are very happy with the victory since Guatemala is always a strong team and in this opportunity
we took advantage of their weaknesses.”
On the other hand, Guatemala’s captain, Marie France Burmeister praised the good work of Nicaragua’s team. She said, “Nicaragua showed they are well prepared, deciphered our game system and dominated us.”
