Any suggestions for towns to spend this in? I prefer an authentic experience and this is more important than just the size of the celebration.

  1. The Immaculate Conception is called "La Purisima" celebrated along with "La Griteria" here and any where (or any town/city) you celebrate it in will be authentic. It is a National Holiday. "La Purisima" celebrates the Virgin Mary's conception of Jesus Christ, the only country in the world where this celebration if found is here in Nicaragua. The biggest celebrations are spread out between Managua, Granada and Leon. I prefer the celebrations in Managua, mostly because my house is packed and the atmosphere is wonderful. Me and my family make large batches of food to give out, we also give out toys to the kids and for many many years our house has had a line that grows outside my house, last year it went around the block. Many people from the barrio were here. Whatever city you choose, i hope you choose a good host and don't forget to sing!

  2. Because I'm from Leon, I have to say go to Leon. Unfortunately, I've never been there for the one in December, I'm usually there for the one in August and people go all out just for the little one. It's very fun, and it gets very crowded. If you go to Leon, go to La Catedral and just hang out in El Parque Central to see all the fireworks and the festivities. Also, if you go to YouTube and you search for Leon, you'll see videos from La Griteria.
