  1. Elementary school (primaria) has 7 grade levels: prescolar (which is like Kindergarten) through 6th grade.  They'll start anytime after 4 years old.  Most start around 6 in the rural areas.

    High School (secundaria) has 5 grade levels, 1st through 5th year.

    This amounts to 12 years of school, rather than the 13 that we have here in the US, including kindergarten.

    So the average for someone who completes all years consecutively, would be entering around 5 years old and graduating at 17.
