Nice Armoire.........too shiny!

Question

I had a nice Armoire given to me. I think it is made of a laminate covering on the sides, and has real wooden doors and moulding. I was told that it used to be a lighter color and that it was stained a darker color. I like the darker color as it matches my furniture, but the stain is just too glossy for my liking. Any way to dull the shine without refinishing? I don't think I could strip the fake panels on the side.

You could try a very very fine sand paper on it to remove the sheen, or even a light steel wool, but see how it looks on an inconspicuous part first.  Otherwise, just sand it back and put something low sheen on it.
