Honda Civic Si. Also try a Chevy Cobalt SS. It has 260 horsepower and goes 0-60 in 5 seconds. for about 22K

Most bang for your buck...the Mazda3 sport wagon or the Subaru WRX.  Safe, reasonably priced (no extra charge for the label like there is with Honda and Toyota).  LOTS OF FUN TO DRIVE!

Driveability is my most critical requirement and both of these are fun, responsive with plenty of power.

2008 honda civic si fully decked out for 23 g's with gps and everything. hondas will last for ever. ive got 193 g's on a 1991 accord and it still is a great car.

The absolutely sexiest 4 cylinder car in the world is the Mazda Miata. It is literally s*x on wheels. I had one until April when mine was totalled when some guy ran a red light. However it is so tough, I walked away without a scratch.

I got a 2002 Miata in 2005 for $8,000 because it had a salvage title. Will likely buy another after my daughter finishes college.

When it comes to looks the others are just pretenders. The Miata is not sporty. It is a true sports car.
