say a 3/3 creature was in play and you hit "last gasp" on it, it would die as its defence is reduced to 0 right?

if so whats the deal with graft creatures with the 0/0 att/def

thanks.

  1. Yes, it does die because its toughness was reduced to zero.

Graft creatures come into play with +1/+1 counters on them, so they don't have 0/0 att/def. They can transfer the +1/+1 counters to other creatures to make them more powerful. When all of the +1/+1 counters are gone the graft creature dies.

    - Hope this helps

  2. hi there.

creatures with toughness of 0 are put into their owner's graveyard automatically as a state-based effect...that's how it is.

creatures with graft (or modular) do have a toughness of 0, but they come into play with a certain number of +1/+1 counters on them. Just to make it clear, these +1/+1 counters add to the power/toughness of a creature, and replace the p/t printed on the card.

Take Simic Initiate. It has power/toughness 0/0, but it has "Graft 1 (this creature comes into play with a  +1/+1 counter on it. Whenever another creature comes into play, you may move a +1/+1 counter from this creature onto it.)"

in short, it comes into play as a 1/1 creature (and lives). As an aside. when another creature comes into play, you may use the second part of the graft mechanic, and place its +1/+1 counter on that creature. When you do, and the Initiate has no more +1/+1 counters, then its toughness would actually be zero and it has to go to the graveyard, or... er, die.
