Question:

Nice aquarium lighting?!?!?

I keep on getting aquarium lights that have a little tinted red or pink or whatever, and I don't like it. I'm looking for something BRIGHT and WHITE, a little blue would be fine, but not red pink.

Can you please tell me what I should be looking for? and Where?

Thank you

  1. Go for a 50/50 caompact lighting system if you are not trying to grow plants.

  2. A 10,000K bulb is about as pure white as it gets.  Much higher and it'll look blue; much lower, and it'll appear red or yellow.  If you're trying to grow plants, however, 10,000K is far less than ideal, as it is severely lacking in the red end of the spectrum (which plants need to photosynthesize)-- 5,500-6,700K is much better, but may give the tank a yellowish tint (it is less noticable with a black background).  Petco and Petsmart, as well as any other pet/fish stores should have 10,000K bulbs, though they may be sold as marine bulbs... if you just want the color, it's fine.

  3. The most natural looking lights are my favorite too- I especially hate blue ones. If you have live plants, the reddish ones are actually best though. White aquarium lights are usually sold as Sun-Glo or something like that. Look for one that is as close to natural sunlight as possible, it will be a nice white color.
