  1. For south bay area, I like either:

Kai in Torrance on the corner of Crenshaw and Skypark -- the tiger roll there is awesome but the atmosphere is a strange sort of sports bar feel but very comfortable and the staff is extremely nice.

For something slightly more upscale, you might try Momoyama in Redondo Beach on PCH just east of Prospect.  They have several little 'private table rooms' and then a sushi bar, a lounge bar, a regular dining room, and a party room.

  2. Try Yamashiro in Hollywood. Their menu is online and the prices range from $13-18 for rolls and $6-14 for sushi and sashimi.

It overlooks the lights of LA and it actually used to be someone's very nice Japanese-style mansion. Be sure to reserve a table in the Sunset Room.

Your cousin will be impressed with the place! They have great service and food. It is a dressy place, so keep that in mind.

  3. There are a TON of good places in LA.  I would look on Yelp.  My favorite place in the LA area (it's actually technically in Ventura County) is called Tomodachi and it's in Westlake.  Just go North on the 101 and get off on Westlake Blvd.  Turn left.  Go down to Agoura Rd.  Turn left.  Then immediately turn left into the Vons parking lot.  Tomodachi is right there.  It's well worth the drive.
