Question:

Nice break in N.Ireland/Ireland?

Hi guys!

I'm planning a break for Aug/Sept for about a week.

Don't like flying so I can't leave N.Ireland/Ireland!

Anyone have any recommendations for where we could go?

I checked out the Chalets at Killyhevlin Hotel in Fermanagh - its gorgeous but a bit expensive - £595 for the week, self catering. This was ideal apart from the price.

Does anyone know of anything similar but more around the £300/400 mark? It doesn't necessarily have to be a Chalet or lodge but that would be great. We're willing to stay in a hotel which offers good deals on longer breaks - 3/4days.

Also, gotta have somewhere that has a bar/restaurant on site or nearby. Its for me and my partner, we want somethin quiet but not boring!

Thanks so much, any help is much appreciated!

U guys rock! :)

  1. Bunbeg holiday cottages are good prices and v close to pubs. V quiet and well kept.

  2. Dublin has deadly shopping and museums and the like, if you're not into the whole city thing I'd say Kerry or Donegal, nice + scenic

  3. In northern ireland   Co. Down around mountains of Mourne, Strangford, Castle ward ( amazing place) Portaferry is guaranteed to be truly wonderful.

  4. kilkeeny is a great county the city is lively and historic and you have easy access to outdoor pursuit type stuff in the countryside parts. check out the new park hotel on the castlecomer road its amazing value and their leisure centre is great. i was there in the middle of winter and had a great time!

  5. Lusty Beg Island near Kesh in Co. Fermanagh has chalets and the hotel and bar are just right beside them.  Not sure of the cost but you could look it up on their website - for some reason I couldnt get onto it because there is a problem with my computer.  It's a bit out of the town though.  Another place I stayed in was the cottages at the Slieve Croob Inn in the Mournes.  Again, might be a bit remote.  Why not get a copy of the NITB self catering brochure and see if there's anything you fancy.  Alternatively, you can decide on a place you'd like to go and look in the Belfast Telegraph for self-catering accommodation in that area.    If you want to go to Portstewart I recommend here http://www.fairfieldcottage.co.uk/  I stayed there last year and it was fab.  Just a short walk from the bars and restaurants along the prom.
