  1. Downtown:  Red Moon.  Pan-Asian type fare, nice atmosphere.  http://www.saucemagazine.com/article/2/9...

Southside: Trattoria Marcella.  I love this place.  Lobster risotto is a favorite, and so is the flash-fried spinach and calamari appetizer.  http://www.trattoriamarcella.com/

I also agree about Sidney Street.

  2. Cheesecake factory is one of my favorite restaurants and there is one close to downtown in the Plaza area. I wouldn't really classify it as upscale but it's definately a nice casual almost upscale place and its great for romantic dinners....plus the cheesecake is the best you will every find. I reccomend the Dulce de Lece.

  3. The Old Spaghetti Factory has amazing food.  Salad, bread, and a big plate of spaghetti come with the meal, or there are other pastas.  They have awesome food that can be upscale yet casual.  Recommended for anyone.

  4. Bamboo Bistro downtown is wonderful!!  Just keep heading down Broadway toward downtown and you'll see it!

  5. Jimmy's on the Park (Clayton/Demun)

    - nice, casual, upscale

    Felix's (Dogtown)

    - more casual, but menu is a little more upscale

    Pueblo Solis (SoHa)

    - casual, more upscale mexican

  6. Try Sidney Street Cafe.  Its terrific!!!

I live in Detroit now, but my husband and I still remember this place fondly.

    2000 Sidney Street, 63104

  7. I don't think I'd call it upscale, but Biggies on Old Watson is casual, local, and delicious.  It's very dark and sports-bar-y inside, but they serve a strip steak that rivals anything I've seen at the upscale steak house.
