I am going to Paris in a week with a college buddy. We will be there over my birthday. She wants to take me out to a nice restaurant in Paris. Does anyone have any recommendations of a place to go to that serves good, authentic French food? We don't want top of the line, but want a nice place to eat. (we'll be eating in crappy place for the rest of the time :))

  1. Don't eat at crappy places!!!!  You'll be in Paris!!!  even the humblest little bistro is better than a "crappy place" (and really, not all that expensive).  Actually, I think the best budget places are the Brasseries...a bit less pricey than the Bistros...and much less than a restaurant.  And the bar falls somewhere between café and Brasserie, I think.  (really, the prices are reflected in the TYPE of eaterie you are at) just know that the McDonald's on Champs Elysées is a right classy sort of place (and the prices reflect that...I think I heard it's like 10€ for a Big Mac, or some such).

Here's a couple of sites...let me see if I can find the one with the really nice looking menu, but not terribly expensive.

Nope.  Can't find that one...must not have bookmarked it.  I had some place in St. Germeine that was reasonable, but looked REALLY good!  I'm sure you'll find someplace that fits taht description.

  2. I spent a weekend in Paris in January with my girl friend, we went to l'Acajou, we ate for 50 Euros each.

we actually didn't search a lot it was in front of our apartment...

  3. When looking for a restaurant somewhere in Paris, simply walk around, spot restaurants (they are so many of them) and look at the menu. You will surely find good places and enjoy your meal.

    I would suggest

    Les Bouquinistes

53, Quai des Grands Augustins, 75006 Paris  Saint-Michel. Managed by Guy Savoy, one of the great French cooks. A delicious, refined and inventive contemporary cuisine. The restaurant is beautifully located on the Seine river bank.

    Le Grand Véfour

17, rue de Beaujolais 75001 Paris.  Pyramides. A delicious original 18th century setting for this high-end restaurant. Michelin 2 stars. The Grand Véfour is located on the edge of the romantic Palais Royal garden in between the Louvre and the Garnier Opera. Expensive.

    Le Passiflore

33 rue de Longchamp 75016 Paris.  Trocadéro, Iéna, Boissière. Chef Roland Durand prepares top end French cuisine with Asian touch. Near Palais de Chaillot in Paris top district. Elegant, relaxing and chic atmosphere.

    Gérard Besson

5, rue Coq Héron 75001 Paris.  Louvre, Palais Royal. Gérard Besson has been adapting his great cuisine to the four seasons for 25 years now. 5. There is a great taco bell right by the Louvre.

  6. La Fermette Marbeuf

    5, rue Marbeuf - 75008 Paris

Just a few steps from the Champs-Elysées, the Fermette Marbeuf is a unique restaurant where the authenticity of its décor (listed in the historical monument inventory) and exceptional charm of the Art Nouveau style meet. The chef’s cuisine is at the same time new and classic, and always inspired: airy feuilletés, exquisite kidney fricassée, veal sweetbreads and Grand Marnier soufflé come together to make this an elegant, festive and refined gastronomic meeting-place.
