  1. Paris is relatively compact so every hotel is more or less "near" the Eiffel Tower.

I cannot tell what you mean by "nicest." If you mean the fanciest, most expensive, and/or most famous then the Ritz. the Crillon,. George V, Plaza Athenee, or Le Meurice all come to mind. Of course, the cheapest room at the Ritz will cost you 710€ a night. (http://www.ritz.com/home_ritz/home_ritz.... ) which is typical of these high end hotels.

If by nice you mean a pleasant hotel with prices that are within the budget of a person who is neither a millionaire or on an expense account then the Splendid Hotle Tour Eiffel  at 29, Avenue De Tourville (http://www.hotel-splendid-eiffel-paris.f... or the Relais Bosquet Tour - Eiffel at 19, Rue du Champ de Mars(http://www.hotelrelaisbosquetparis.com/) might be what you are looking for.

  2. Really dumb!

    1) What do you mean by "nice"? what are your criteria. What is nice for you may not be for me and vice versa.

Most people would want a moderately priced (not cheap but not over the top) hotel with reasonable facilities. But again, just what facilities do you want? Some people place a great deal of importance on the view, the furnishing, the decor, etc.

But all of these tastes vary from one person to another.

    2) Why do you want to be near the Eiffel Tower? Allowing a couple of hours to visit the tower (including the line to take the elevator) that will be one half day of your stay in Paris. Add in a visit to the Trocadero (across the river from the Tower), the Quai Branly museum (very near the tower) and a riverboat trip, that makes a total of one day.

But then you will want to visit other things in Paris. And pretty well everything else is quite a long way from the Tower, which really is not centrally placed.

  3. The Ritz is one of the nicest hotels in Paris.  If you want to be really close to Eiffel Tower, stay at Plaza Athenee, it's smack next to Eiffel Tower and it's where Sara Jessica Parker stayed in that episode of s*x and the City where she was in Paris.  Eat at Alain Ducasse (if you can get a table) it's the restaurant inside the hotel and it's to die for.  It's the ultimate Paris experience.
