Nicholas Groenewald clinches Boys 400m IM gold – State Teams SC Championships
Nic Groenewald of VIC clinched gold medal of the Boy’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) in 14-15 years age category on day three of the 2012 State Teams Short Course Championships at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra on Monday, October 8.
The 15-year-old Groenewald spoiled the party of his opponents in the distant IM discipline as he rushed his way towards the wall for gold medal.
With his impeccable pace, Groenewald remained in a considerable lead over his subsequent rival and proved his mettle for the crown by producing an effort of 4 minutes and 26.83 seconds.
Groenewald was chased by Hayden Hinds-Sydenham of NSW, who stayed 3.02 seconds apart and stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by producing a time of 4 minutes and 29.85 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Ryan Leonard of NSW, who stayed 1.02 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall as third best finisher by clocking an effort 4 minutes and 30.87 seconds.
Subsequently, fourth position of the race was obtained by Hami McDougall of VIC, who stayed two and a half body lengths behind and produced a time of 4 minutes and 33.31 seconds.
McDougall was followed by Jordon Kendall of WA, who remained two body lengths apart and secured fifth position of the event by touching the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 35.22 seconds.
Kendall was chased by Lachlan Neill of QLD, who stayed 0.87 seconds away from upsetting his former finisher and emerged on the wall as sixth best finisher with an effort of 4 minutes and 36.09 seconds.
Neill was traced by Alex Gough of QLD, who secured seventh position of the distant IM event by hitting the wall with a timing of 4 minutes and 38.74 seconds.
Gough was followed by Justin Van-Nieuwburg of WA, who settled on the wall as eighth best finisher by producing a time of 4 minutes and 40.43 seconds.
In addition, Groenewald was happy with his accomplishment and said that he would keep working hard and try to attain the same at superior levels of swimming.
