Western Australia’s campaigner Nicholas Kidd played impeccable badminton and proved his mettle by thrashing Michael Fariman in Ede Clendinnen Shield Sydney on August 27, 2012.
This Men’s Singles tie kept both contenders head-to-head for 48 minutes and they had to sweat hard to read final figures of 21-16, 10-21 and 8-21.
Michael Fariman, who was representing NSW Thunder, took a great start and claimed opening match point on merit but he could not go with the same flow in ending two games and surrendered in a disgraceful manner.
On the other hand, Nicholas displayed commendable fighting spirit and cruised to victory with a significant margin of 2-1.
The first set of the match heated up with Michael prevailing in a couple of uninterrupted rallies as his challenger made some serious mistakes.
He mounted pressure by establishing a strong grip over the game and then relished this early advantage all the way to the one-minute interval.
After the break, Nicholas made every effort to catch his rival but could not hit the mark as Michael gathered some pace and widened the gap with some consecutive points.
He maintained this rhythm in final moments and swept the table with an overwhelming total of 21-16.
However, things were not that easy for him in the following set as the opposing shuttler stormed back and managed to avoid a straight-set defeat.
This time, it was Nicholas’ turn to rule the court and he did not squander this opportunity. He set the ball rolling straight away in the beginning and kept moving at top gear until the last shot was played.
Both contenders were poles apart in terms of performance as Nicholas never lost his focus and enjoyed an indomitable lead throughout this crucial game.
He maintained a significant difference of eleven points and wrapped this segment of the tussle with a 21-10 score on the board.
After such an emphatic end, he started the third set with an authoritative approach and dazzled his competitor with a lustrous performance.
He did not give even a single counter-attack opportunity and stole the limelight in an impressive fashion. He sent Michael to packing with a staggering knock of 21-8.
