Nicholas Roche focussed on his performance and leaves the contract worries behind him
Nicholas Roche joined Team AG2R-La Mondiale in 2009 and has helped the team with numerous victories during his stay.
His contract with the French side will expire by the end of 2012 and the cyclist has to find a new home to continue his professional voyage.
However, Roche has briefed that he is currently focused on his performance and is not bothered about the 2013 contract.
“Talk of contracts hasn’t gone through my mind yet. I’ve not thought about any options, just about getting good feelings on the bike first”, he explained
Roche has not opened his 2012 winning account and is hopeful to grab his first win of the season in the near future.
Bad form, followed by illness during the Paris-Nice has made it very difficult for him to justify his talent in the first part of the season.
The Irishman started his professional career with Team Cofidis in 2005 and stayed with the side by the end of 2006 season.
He accepted an offer from Team Credit Agricole in 2007 and spent a period of two years with the team before joining Team Ag2R-La Mondiale in 2009.
Nicolas secured several victories in the past few years and also represented the French team at the last three consecutive Tour de France events.
He secured the 22nd, 14th and the 25th overall spots during the 2009, 2010 and the 2011 editions of the French Grand Tour.
The 27-year-old is now targeting the Tour de France 2012 as the biggest goal of his season and has already started training for the French race.
While commenting on his goals for the coming part of the season he cited,” The weather was pretty good this winter but looking at my training I think I might have overdone it and arrived at the first few races in tired shape”.
“I had flu after Paris-Nice and it took me a while to come back and now I had a short break to recover and taking it step by step and working towards the Tour of California, Tour de Suisse and then the Tour”, he concluded.
It will be interesting to see, if Roche can build up his winning momentum ahead of the Tour de France 2012.
