Nicholas Roche hopeful to perform at San Sebastian and Vuelta a Espana – Cycling News
Nicholas Roche is setting his eyes on the Clasica San Sebastian after he finished 26th overall in Paris at the Tour de France. He will be hoping that three weeks of cycling in France will surely help him at the San Sebastian as usually it helps
the cyclists who have participated in the Tour de France.
Roche who had bad memories with the 2011 Tour de France as he was not in the best of form and on top of that had to face a crash at the Criterium du Dauphine said, “I’m still paying the consequences of my crash.”
Last year Roche finished eighth after returning from the Tour and he is hoping to put up an even better performance this year as he was talking to the reporters, he said, “Last year, out of the ten riders in the break, nine were coming out of the Tour.”
He said that even though he is not feeling his best physically but still he is positive about his performance at the Sebastian as it is amongst his favourite races as he said, “I’m a little bit at sea physically but Clasica is a race that I really like.”
Nicholas will participate in the Tour starting on August 20 and is ready to test himself on the climbs despite the fact that the gap between the tours is less. Roche stated that he loves the climbs at Vuelta as they are considerably shorter than Tour de
France and steeper.
Roche finished seventh last season at Vuelta a Espana and he has shown his interest to participate this year but as the gap between the Tour de France and Vuelta is only four weeks and it is a bit hard to participate in both the races.
He is really hopeful and positive that his performance in the coming Tours will heal his bad memories of the Tour de France and he is optimistic and is targeting a higher position in the general classification.
