Nicholas Santos occupies Men’s 50m butterfly gold - FINA Swimming Championships (25m)
Nicholas Santos of Brazil occupied gold medal of the Men’s 50m butterfly on fourth day of the 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) at Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul, Turkey, on Saturday, December 15.
The Brazilian swimmer demonstrated his astonishing efforts in the 50m discipline and earned his way to the top of victory stand for gold medal.
With his epic pace, Santos gained a slight lead over his toughest challenger and managed to outsmart him over the finishing end for the title by submitting a time of 22.22 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Chad le Clos of South Africa, who stayed only 0.04 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and made his way to the finishing wall for silver medal by reporting an effort of 22.26 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Thomas Shields of USA, who stayed 0.20 seconds slower from his former finisher and touched the wall for bronze medal with the timing of 22.46 seconds.
Shields was chased by Frederick Bousquet of France, who remained 0.15 seconds apart and settled on the wall for fourth position with the timing of 22.61 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Peng Wu of China, who was only an inch apart and made his way to the finishing end by touching the wall with the timing of 22.78 seconds.
Wu was chased by Andrii Govorov of Ukraine, who remained 0.07 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and reached the wall for sixth place with an effort of 22.85 seconds.
Similarly, Govorov remained 0.05 seconds faster from Joeri Verlinden of Netherlands, who snared seventh position of the event by clocking a time of 22.90 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Peter Mankoc of Slovenia, who was unable to overpower any of his challengers and finished eighth in the race by completing his race in a time of 22.94 seconds.
In addition, Santos received a huge round of applause from the audience for his notable efforts at the victory ceremony of the tournament and promised her fans of achieving the same in future.
