Nicholas Tombazis: Scuderia Ferrari adopts ‘more aggressive approach’ for 2012 car – Formula 1 news
Scuderia Ferrari’s chief design engineer Nicholas Tombazis has revealed that the team has adopted a new and more open-minded approach to its 2012 car.
While speaking to the official Ferrari website, Tombazis said, “I hope the results will speak for themselves when we launch the car and more importantly, as we tackle the first few races on the calendar.”
The team sat down and analysed its performance in the races held so far in the 2011 Formula 1 season to come up with a car that has all the latest upgrades. The team wants to enter the next season with a complete package of upgrades which includes a better
wind tunnel and aerodynamics which should make them more competitive.
Tombazis said, “I think that visually, the new car is fairly different to its predecessor but if it has a wow factor, as our team principal Stefano Domenicali thought, when he first saw the model, then I hope the wow factor will also be evident from the
results. We have set ourselves ambitious targets, which we intend to maintain and so, on this front, I am quite optimistic.”
Both Tombazis and team principal Stefano Domenicali are very happy with the new car’s design as some parts of the development phase have already been completed. Both of them are very optimistic that with the upgraded car, the team will perform a lot better
in the 2012 season and deliver much better results than it has so far.
Tombazis admits that their approach has been very conservative and their 2011 car was not tailor-made to most of the circuits on the Formula 1 calendar, but with more knowledge gathered and a better analysis of their performance, they are now in a better
position to come up with a car for 2012.
The team currently stands at 5th position and hopes to gain a few points before the end of this season.
The next race is scheduled for Japan at the Suzuka racetrack. The Japanese Grand Prix is taking place this weekend from October 7-9, 2011.
