Nicholas Walters defies all odds to unanimously nail Hector Javier Marquez – Boxing News
Nicholas Walters, the current WBA Fedelatin featherweight champion, collected a huge win of his career by outpointing the Mexican veteran Hector Javier Marquez, in a 10-round skirmish held on March 31, 2012.
The duo met at the ring stretched at Hotel Melia situated in Colon City, Panama and the whole event was organised and promoted by Jacques Deschamps of Premium Boxing. The night was co-headlined by the WBC Latino featherweight bout between Ricardo Cordoba
and Eduardo Garcia.
The 10-round battle kicked off with odds heavily against the Jamaican proud Walters. It was simple since Nicholas was entering in his career’s 20th bout though he has an impressive undefeated win streak yet still he was seriously outclassed by Hector’s whopping
experience.
Nicholas, infamous as the ‘Axe Man’, has made himself quite a reputation of being a hardcore knockout pugilist who batters his opponent vehemently, the reason why he has won 16 of his total bouts by knockout.
All these impressive knockout or undefeated streak facets lost their charm in front of Hector’s 54-bout resume. Javier, 38, is a Mexican veteran who though has been in a huge number of bouts yet tarnished his resume with 24 losses.
Well known as the ‘Chocolate’, Javier boasted 30 wins and 21 of them by knockout. As far as the knockout ability is concerned Javier and Nicholas were equal but the win ratio and the experience factor were the basic decisive aspects.
Walters was coming from two successful title defence bouts on the other hand, Hector was facing the toughest time in his career since he was coming from a dual loss to Fernando Garcia and Christopher Perez.
The bout started and the 26-year-old startled the whole Panamanian arena by his impressive and continuous jabs, agile footwork and tough resilience. From the very first round, Walters did not take any chances and threw all what he had.
As a result, Hector was unable to counter and attack Walters. The beating was so tough that in the ninth round Javier almost lost his breath and was about to go down but resilience came in to help the former seven time world champion.
The bout ended with all the three judges awarding 100-90 in favour of Walters. After the battle the happy and excited Nicholas commented, “I really thought he was ready to go a couple of times but he just held on and wouldn’t go down. A real tough guy. I
don’t mind, I needed this distance fight.”
Nicholas has strengthened his win streak and now has 20 wins in his account and Hector, unfortunately, might possibly think of hanging off his gloves since he has won just three bouts in last 15 skirmishes.
