Nicholas Walters ready to defend his featherweight gold against Hector Javier Marquez - Boxing News
Nicholas Walters, the current WBA Fedelatin featherweight champion, will defend his precious gold for the fifth time against the Mexican veteran, Hector Javier Marquez, the current WBC interim super featherweight Hispanic World title owner, in a 10-round
skirmish on March 31, 2012.
The event is being promoted by Jacques Deschamps of Premium Boxing and the ring for the extravaganza will be stretched at Hotel Melia situated in Colon City, Panama. Nicholas-Hector bout will headline the night whereas the WBC Latino featherweight gold bout
between Ricardo Cordoba and Eduardo Garcia will co-headline the Saturday night pay-per-view.
Nicholas, 26, hails from Jamaica and after just 19 bouts has grabbed the 20th position in the world rankings. The young lad has won all of his bouts and 16 of them by brutally knocking out the opponents.
Infamous as the ‘Axe Man’, the Jamaican proud grabbed the WBA Fedelatin featherweight gold from Carlos Manuel Reyes and since then has successfully defended it against Jose Miguel Payares, Gonzalo Munguia, Argel Salinas, and Irving Berry.
His Saturday night opponent, Hector, is a veteran who has been in a whopping 53 bouts. The 38-year-old Mexican does not possess an emphatic win ratio since he has won only 30 bouts and lost a huge 23.
Well known as the ‘Chocolate’, Javier has collected 21 of his wins by knockout and therefore it can be predicted that he might give the Jamaican a bit tough time with his powerful jabs.
Hector has proudly held various titles such as NABF featherweight and Mexico featherweight titles but unfortunately was unable to defend them for long. Javier is currently facing a real tough time in his career.
The Mexican featherweight strived hard to break his nine-bout lose streak and was successful when he nailed Ismael Gonzalez to grab the WBC interim super featherweight and collected a unanimous decision against Cesar Soto hence defending the newly acquired
gold.
Hector again got derailed from the victory track when he lost his last two bouts to Christopher Perez and Fernando Garcia. At the moment, it is evident that the odds are seriously in Nicholas’ favour since he exhibits a flawless resume as compared to Javier’s
tarnished one.
In a recent interview, Nicholas simply uttered one line about his opponent, Javier and said, “I’ve seen tapes of Marquez and he is a real tough guy, always coming forward, a real pressure fighter.”
If Walters is able to grab a win he will definitely get a step closer in challenging the owner of the apex divisional title but Marquez is a veteran a man with a huge experience therefore Nicholas needs to throw his jabs wisely otherwise he might get knocked
out.
