Nicholls’s Tidal Bay lands a massive victory in the Grade 3 Bet365 Gold Cup Chase
The Paul Nicholls trained Tidal Bay crushed all competition in the Grade 3 Bet365 Gold Cup Chase (Handicap) which took place at Sandown on 28th April, 2012.
Paired with jockey, Daryl Jacob, the runner heated the track with his brisk pace which resulted in a landslide victory.
The son of Flemensfirth, out of mare June´s Bride, welcomed this victory after almost a break of two and half years, as his previous victory took place on 30th January, 2010, at Cheltenham where he defeated, Time For Rupert, by 5 lengths
in the Grade 2 Betfair Cleeve Hurdle.
With the winning shot of 9 to 1, he defeated the Philip Hobbs trained Roalco De Farges by a tremendous margin of 15 lengths.
The runner-up, who was mounted by jockey, Richard Johnson, could not keep up and did not pose any threat to the winner.
The third place was secured by, Any Currency, who fell seven lengths behind the runner-up.
The Andrea and Graham Wylie owned gelding was whelped on 12th May, 2001, finished fourth in the Grade 1 BGC Partners Liverpool Hurdle, which took place at Aintree on 12th April, 2012.
This victory has raised his esteem among the punters and his connections, as they might enter him in more races to come this season.
The winning trainer was immensely pleased with the victory of his runner as after the race, he stated that the eleven-year-old gelding might be taken to Auteuil, if the surface of the track suits him.
He said: "Three miles has almost been a bit short for him over hurdles and fences. He ran all right behind Big Buck's at Aintree, where I think he would have been second if he hadn't been interfered with on the far side.
"That put him right for today and when it rained it helped him because it slowed them down. He was able to jump well and do everything right. We might go to Auteuil on June 10. They have a hurdle race over 3m3f that might be perfect if the ground is
really deep."
