Nick Blackburn’s pitching helps Minnesota Twins defeat Chicago White Sox 1-0 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins’ starter, Nick Blackburn was impressive with his pitching as he threw eight solid innings with an ERA of 3.16 and struck-out one batter in the Twins’ 1-0 victory against the Chicago White Sox at Target Field, Minnesota on June 16.
The Twins snapped the two-game series 2-0 against the White Sox.
It was the day of pitchers as they were on top right through the game and delivered the balls in perfect line. At the top of the first, the White Sox out-fielder, Juan Pierre was grounded out to second base and Carlos Quentin grounded out to short-stop.
On the other side, the Twins’ batters also failed to put some runs on the score-board. Ben Revere was grounded out to second base and Tsuyoshi Nishioka struck-out swinging. In the second inning, the Twins scored their first and final run to get a 1-0 lead
when Michael Cuddyer struck a solo homer (442 feet) to left centre-field.
Third to ninth inning passed without any score as the pitchers mixed their curveballs with the fast ones to restrict the shots of the batters. Blackburn allowed no run on seven hits and gave just one walk on his 95 pitches. The Twins’ closer, Matt Capps
also shined as he pitched one score-less inning with an ERA of 4.34 and struck-out two batters.
Blackburn commented on the game and said, “I don't know what was going on. Myself, I was probably picking around the corners too much, trying to be too fine. I find myself at times trying to throw one down the middle and let 'em hit it to somebody.”
Nishioka was unable to add any run for the Twins and went 1-for-4. Speaking to reporters, he said, “I have nothing to really worry about anymore, after going through the rehab.”
The White Sox manager, Ozzie Guillen said, “They play good baseball when they play at home. They're not just playing good baseball against us. I think they've been playing good baseball for a few weeks.”
Mark Buehrle was little bit shaky with the ball as he gave the one and only run of the game in his seven inning pitches and threw the ball with an ERA of 3.75. He permitted two walks on 98 pitches and had three strike-outs.
