“Nick Castellanos going to hit like crazy,” says Detroit Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski – MLB News

In an interview with a leading sports website, Detroit Tigers’ General Manager stated that there is no truth in the team talking with Scott Harrison but admitted the Tigers could bring Nick Castellanos and Avisail Garcia in the outfield mix for the 2013
season.
News had surfaced that the Tigers are looking to offer a contract to Scott Harrison and the Tigers’ GM responded about rumours as he denied contract offers had been made to any outfielder.
Jon Paul Morosi of ESPN.com, who was thought to be behind Harrison rumours, also reacted by saying he had misunderstood the information.
"Let's just say you sign Player X for one year at $2 million," Dombrowski said. "Then Castellanos and Garcia, they don't have a chance. Maybe that's better and maybe it's not, but they're talented enough that we feel that it's not out of the question that
one of them could earn some playing time in spring training."
However, while taking to the reporters, Dombrowski did admit that the Tigers are looking to have Castellanos and Garcia in the outfield mix on the 2013 big league roster.
After Tigers’ outfield weaknesses were exposed in the playoffs last season, General Manager signed former Los Angeles Angels’ outfielder Torii Hunter for a two year $26 million contract. Hunter had an excellent season with the bat as he hit .313 with 16
home-runs and 92 RBI’s.
His presence will certainly add to the Tigers’ batting strength. Furthermore, having Garcia and Castellanos in the mix will also help the cause. Both had a decent time on the plate last season. Castellanos is one of the Tigers’ top prospects.
"He's not (Avisail) Garcia in the outfield right now by any means," Dombrowski said. "But he has made strides."
"We found out he was tired," Dombrowski said. "He needed some time off. But everybody thinks the guy's going to hit like crazy."
According to source, has been working with 2012 American League Valuable Player Miguel Cabrera to polish his skills. It will be interesting to see if he can continue the good work to secure a permanent spot on the Tigers’ big league roster.
