Nick Compton prepared for spin challenge in India – Cricket News Update
Uncapped England batsman Nick Compton feels he is prepared for the spin challenge in India, as the Poms get ready to get on board for a lengthy trip to the sub-continent.
Former Test skipper Andrew Strauss’ retirement, in August this year, leaves a vacancy in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Lumb-c1981 Root, who is also yet to make
an international debut, to be Alastair Cook’s new opening partner.
The 29-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843 batsman has been fine-tuning his approach against spin bowling ever since he got the national call up for the forthcoming Test tour of India, in September this year. His preparations for the itinerary has included
spending plenty of time in the nets facing England spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Paul-Thorpe-c60622, a veteran of 100 Tests.
"I have been training hard and working on my fitness. In my batting I am trying to replicate the sorts of angles and situations that I might find out in India," Compton told Somerset Cricket's website.
"I have been facing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Dermott-Monteith-c65601 in the nets at Lord's, which has been very good practice for me because there is going to be plenty of spin bowling to face out there."
"I have had a couple of sessions with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-c60529 at Lord's. In between that I have been trying to give myself a bit of a break before setting off because it will be a tough trip," the lanky right-hander added further.
Compton earned his maiden Test call-up on the back of a prolific 2012 summer with his county Somerset, in which he averaged just short of 100 in the LV = County Championship Division One. Despite missing a part of the summer due to a back
injury, the 29-year-old Natal-born top-order batsman finished as the highest run getter in Division One, with 1191 runs coming off his bat at a startling 99.25.
England are scheduled to play four Tests against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820, Kolkata and Nagpur. The Test series
will be followed by two T20 Internationals (in December) and five One Day Internationals (in January 2013).
