Nick D’Arcy conquers Men’s 200m butterfly title: Day One - 2011 Los Angeles Invitational
Nick D’Arcy of Australia won the gold medal in the Men’s 200m butterfly meet on the opening day of the 2011 Los Angeles Invitational. The 23-year-old swimmer won the title of the event in an astonishing time of 1 minute and 56.88 seconds.
The gold medallist, who entered the finals as the top qualifying swimmer, has also represented his country at the 2010 Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine, where he captured a silver medal.
The Australian was 1.30 seconds away from his closest competitor, Bobby L Bollier of Stanford-PC, who improved his timing by 0.81 seconds and clocked a superb time of 1 minute and 58.18 seconds for the silver medal. Bollier was in a lead of 1.47 seconds
over his subsequent swimmer, Daniel Tranter of Australia, who settled on the finishing wall as the third fastest swimmer in a time of 1 minute and 59.65 seconds.
Josh C Prenot of Santa Maria-CA occupied the fourth fastest qualification of the swim, as he stayed almost two seconds away from Tranter and posted a time of 2 minutes and 01.92 seconds. He was followed by Eddie C Erazo of UN-CA, who completed his swim in
a time of 2 minutes and 02.77 seconds for the fifth position. Ben S Hinshaw of Palo Alto-PC was just 0.23 seconds behind Erazo and produced a nice time of 2 minutes and 03.00 seconds for sixth position.
Corey H Okubo of AZOT-CA was the second last swimmer to appear on the finishing wall, as he concluded his swim in a time of 2 minutes and 03.01 seconds. Seth K Stubblefield of California Aquatics-PC followed Okubo on the finishing wall as the eighth fastest
swimmer, as he completed his swim in 2 minutes and 05.07 seconds.
D’Arcy expressed happiness over his comfortable win and stressed that he will work hard to improve his timing, so that he can perform better in future. In addition, the arena acknowledged the efforts of all participants, while the podium finishers were awarded
with medals for their immaculate swims.
