Nick Dempsey, Alexandra Rickham and Niki Birrell impress at 2012 Rolex Miami OCR: Day 3
Britain’s sailors have produced impressive results at the 2012 Rolex Miami Olympic Classes Regatta (OCR), the second round of 2012 International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Sailing World Cup in Florida. At the conclusion of Day 3, Great Britain’s Nick Dempsey
of RS:X Men class and Alexandra Rickham and Niki Birrell of SKUD Paralympic class showed outstanding form to clinch the top spot in the regatta.
The RS:X Men class is currently being led by British windsurfer, Nick Dempsey  who looks firmly in control of the regatta at Biscayne Bay. The Briton has been impressive on Miami waters and has clinched all bullets in windsurfing fleet races. He is leading
the fleet with five points after surfing in six races, including a discard fifteenth place.
The 2012 Rolex Miami OCR is like a training session for the British windsurfer as he is preparing for the World Cup. The 31-year-old believes that the RS:X fleet is pretty small and is missing the big names. However, his goal is to claim the overall title.
The bronze medallist on Athens Olympics, Dempsey is being followed by his training partner, Elliot Carney, who has grabbed 12 points so far.
On the other hand, Alexandra Rickham and Niki Birrell of the SKUD class were able to claim the leading position by nine points after a convincing run on Biscayne Bay waters. The four-time World Champions finished the third day’s proceedings securing a second
and third position in both races of the day with the latter considered as a discard race.
Australia’s Daniel Fitzgibbon and Liesl Tesch are just two points behind them with 11 points and they managed to clinch the second spot, while America’s Jennifer French and Jean-Paul Creignou hit the third spot with 13 regatta points.
