Nick Diaz-Anderson Silva bout: a catastrophic clash for UFC and Nick – UFC Special
Nick Diaz, the former Strikeforce welterweight champion, has decided to make a comeback from his retirement, and it seems he has quite serious ambitions. In a recent media interaction, his trainer Cesar Gracie revealed that Nick has decided to return to
the octagon, most probably against Anderson Silva.
The news is somewhat exciting and shocking as well. Diaz is currently facing a one-year suspension imposed by Nevada State Athletic Commission on the usage of marijuana substances.
Furthermore, Nick, who left the octagon after his UFC welterweight title bout with Carlos Condit, was obliterated by Carlos so much so that Nick was nowhere to be found in the octagon and it was only Condit who not only set the pace of the bout but also
dominated the octagon as well.
The question is when Nick can easily lose to a man who is not even slightly close to Anderson Silva, how come the American can handle a man who has defended his title 10 times.
Moreover, Nick is a welterweight and in order to collide with Silva he would either have to go up in the 185-pound division or should invite Anderson to come down to his weight class. Question is why would Silva accept his proposal?
Diaz also knows it, most probably the reason why Cesar even said that if Silva thumbs down the offer they will go up at the 185 pound. All these rumours have yet again rattled the UFC roster and almost each and every individual is talking about Cesar’s comments.
Gracie stated, “As far as future opponents, Nick has stated that he would like to take fights 'that matter,'. Since GSP will be fighting Condit, he has to look elsewhere. He will respectfully ask for a fight with Anderson Silva, a fighter he respects and
would like to challenge.”
Cesar also revealed that the camp is opting to go for a concession in the penalty imposed by NSAC so as to enable Diaz become available for the UFC octagon by most probably the year end.
Nick’s trainer commented, “Nick Diaz will return. To address the NSAC suspension, I will say that we have appealed to the courts and if things go our way, it will be plausible that Nick could return as early as sometime at the end of this year.”
The problem is not with Nick’s decision to return but with the fact as to why he must not collide with the champion and most probably the toughest men in the whole of UFC – Anderson Silva.
First of all, Nick has to gain some weight and move up in the division to reach Silva. In order to do so, he must undergo strenuous training so as to increase his body mass and weight.
Above all, Diaz should have the power and ability to strike like a middleweight, must possess the resilience to absorb severe punishment and above all should have the agility close enough to that possessed by Silva.
Nick should come back and if he wants to do it in the middleweight division – as he deems fit - but he must not take on Silva immediately as it will only mean another loss and most probably a final forever retirement.
Diaz should go step by step, collide with men in the top five to 10 rank first so as to know whether he can sustain the pressure and the damage or not then move on to the top 5.
After nailing the whole division, Nick should then challenge Silva otherwise it would only mean a career suicide. Therefore, even the Silva-Nick bout thought should be scrapped as it would also be non-beneficial for the promotion who would not want to see
their former ace belligerent get battered in a one-sided showdown.
