Nick Diaz aims at becoming the next big MMA fighter at UFC 143 – UFC News
According to reports, Nick Diaz wants to become the biggest mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter.
He has been a professional MMA fighter since 2001 and in the last decade, he has really proved his resilience as an MMA fighter. His next target is UFC 143 in February 2012 where he will face Carlos Condit for the Interim Welterweight Championship.
UFC and MMA critics have given their opinion by saying that either of the two things are bound to happen. Either Diaz would leave UFC 143 as the new Interim UFC Welterweight Champion or he would have to return home with a loss after twelve straight bouts.
Many already regard Diaz as a tough competitor who has always given his best in every fight and has been proving himself for the past three years.
The 28-year-old Diaz has won twenty-six fights in his career with 7 losses and 1 bout ended in a draw. His fight against Condit would be a milestone he would need to achieve. In March 2003, he won the inaugural World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) Championship
at WEC 6 by beating Joe Hurley.
Diaz had made his UFC debut in September 2003 and won the fight against Jeremy Jackson. He fought in UFC from September 2003 to November 2006 winning six fights out of ten. In 2006 he took a brief hiatus from UFC and brawled in other MMA promotions. This
was the time when he made his Strikeforce debut.
In this MMA promotion, he won the inaugural Strikeforce Welterweight Championship at Strikeforce: Miami in January 2010. He defeated Marius Zaromskis in the first round. He successfully defended his title thrice in October 2010 against KJ Noons, in January
2011 against Evangelista Santos and in April 2011 against Paul Daley.
He made his return back into the UFC at UFC 137 in October 2011 and won the return bout against B.J Penn. Diaz, who specializes in boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai and Sambo fighting styles is on an unbeaten run since May 2008. At UFC 143 he would
be entering the cage with eleven straight fights under his belt. Diaz wants to become the next big thing in MMA and with a career statistics as strong as Diaz has, he has the opportunity to affirm his credibility. At UFC 143 he can be the next big MMA fighter
he wishes to become.
