Nick Diaz wants Anderson Silva next – UFC News
Former Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight fighter Nick Diaz wants to make his comeback against UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva.
Diaz, who is regarding as one of the best fighters in the industry, believes he is the only one who can take down the Spider.
Cesar Gracie, Diaz’s trainer, revealed, “To address the NSAC suspension, I will say that we have appealed to the courts and if things go our way, it will be plausible that Nick could return as early as sometime at the end of this year.”
Diaz was suspended earlier this year by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for the usage of marijuana.
“For too long NSAC bureaucrats have acted with malicious incompetence towards fighters. We will challenge them in court,” Gracie added.
Gracie went on saying that Diaz is looking forward to fight that ‘matter’. According to him, Diaz will ask for a fight against Silva, even if he has to face to 185-lbs.
“Silva’s camp has been speaking of a fight with GSP (Georges St. Pierre), possibly even at a catchweight. Nick will take that fight in a minute, but has told me that should Silva decide not to drop at all, he will move up to 185-lbs to face the Champ,” Gracie
added.
Gracie further said that Diaz is not interested in a title shot, instead he wants to put forth a superfight against the Brazilian mixed martial artist, who is considered indestructible.
“It’s not about the title. If he was at 185, we don’t want the title. Nick isn’t trying to be disrespectful to other great middleweights out there on campus and want that,” he added.
Nick Diaz enters the list of Silva’s possible opponent for this season with his demand of facing the Brazilian champion. Michael Bisping, Chris Weidman and Brian Stann are already some of the fighters who are looking forward to a showdown against the champion.
On the other hand, Silva’s camp has already shrugged off ideas of fighting Bisping, Weidman or Stann, saying the champion needs someone more competitive to head to head with.
If Diaz is lucky, he might get a shot at Silva this year, or he will have to go through the challengers first.
