Nick Driebergen earns Men’s 100m backstroke gold: Day four – 2012 Netherlands Championships
Nick Driebergen of E ON-NZA earned gold medal of the Men’s 100m backstroke on last day of the 2012 Netherlands Swimming Championships in Amsterdam on Sunday, June 10.
Driebergen, who recently captured gold medal of the 50m backstroke discipline, dictated terms to his opponents in the 100m discipline and seized gold medal of the event.
With his immaculate efforts, he remained comfortably faster from his fellow swimmer and stepped on the victory stand for gold medal by producing a time of 54.86 seconds.
His gold winning effort remained 2.70 seconds faster from his subsequent rival and his teammate, Sverre Eschweiler, who emerged on the victory stand for silver medal by producing a time of 57.56 seconds.
The second position was chased by Ramunas Paknys of Vilnius water sports school, who stayed nearly 1.60 seconds apart and completed the podium by earning bronze medal of the event with an effort of 59.16 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was obtained by Sven Kardol of Nuenen, who stayed almost full body length behind and made his way to the finishing end with the timing of 59.97 seconds.
Kardol was chased by Chris Bolding of ZPC Bikkel Hoogeveen, who was just 1.20 seconds behind and proved his eligibility for fifth position of the event by producing a time of 1 minute and 01.17 seconds.
Similarly, sixth position of the event was secured by Arjan Hanse of AZ&PC, who was 0.65 seconds apart and cruised his way to the finishing wall with an effort of 1 minute and 01.82 seconds.
Hanse was followed by Pieter Ytsma of Orca, who stayed considerably slower from his preceding swimmer and finished his race in seventh best place. Pieter stayed three body lengths behind his foregoing finisher and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 05.08
seconds.
Eighth participant of the event was David Koers of AquAmigos, who chose not to swim in the event.
The position holders received medals and accolades for their gruelling efforts at the prize distribution ceremony of the event while the winners received a huge round of applause from the audience after the session.
