Nick Faldo: Player Profile (Part 2)

The 1989 Masters was a very intense game for Faldo; he posted a 65 which was his low round of the tournament and hence entered the playoff with Scott Hotch. Faldo won the playoff after holing a very lengthy putt on the 2nd
playoff hole. Next year, once again, he won the playoff against Raymond Floyd. After spending 98 weeks on top of the Official World Golf Rankings, he topped the Order of Merit once again in 1992.
About his success at that time, Nick said that if someone wants to beat him they will have to work hard to achieve it. He openly declared that whoever is up for it would have taken the glory from him. That year, Faldo earned £1,558,978
and broke the existing record.
Even though for most of his career he was an active member of the European Tour, he did play around the world and in the PGA Tour. It was in 1995 that he really focused on tournaments in America. His main aim was the Masters and
even though his plan wasn’t very fruitful in 1995, it started working year later. Since three out of the four majors are played in America, Faldo had three chances and he finally availed one at the 1996 Masters. This win was his sixth and final championship
title.
Faldo went into the final round six shots behind Greg Norman. Lucky for Nick, Norman didn’t have his best game with him in the final round and handed victory to Faldo. Nick was victorious by five shots and was hence applauded for
his determination and consistency.
Nick’s wins have earned him an array of honours. Faldo was named the PGA Tour Player of the Year in 1990 and the European Player of the Year in 1989, 1990 and 1992. In total, Faldo won 29 European Titles. Entering his forties,
Faldo decided to not be so active in competitive golf and looked at more off-course activities. The last season that he fully participated in the PGA Tour was 2001. Following that, Nick was again inclined towards the European Tour.  His last top finish to
date was his tie for 8th place at the 1003 Open Championship.
Nick Faldo had an amazing Ryder Cup Career. He is known as one of the most successful players of the grand event. He won the most points of any player on either of the two times and has played for Europe eleven times.  Due to his
amazing Ryder Cup experience, Faldo was made the captain of the European Ryder Cup team in 2008. Even though the Europeans didn’t win under his captaincy, he was still a very motivating captain. The Americans won by a large margin of 16.5-11.5. Nick also caught
a lot of media attention due to making some wrong movies for the Ryder Cup. He was criticized for naming Ian Poulter rather the much expected Darren Clarke one of his wildcards. The criticism turned out to be a good thing for Faldo when Poulter turned out
to be a top scorer in the Cup.
Since he wasn’t very active in playing golf, Faldo became a broadcaster for ABC Sports PGA Tour Coverage. He worked for the channel from 2004 to 2006. In 2006, he then signed a contract with CBS Sports to replace Lanny Wadkins
and become the channel’s head golf analyst.
His endeavours also include the Faldo Enterprises which has made the amazing golfer a successful businessman as well. His own company, Faldo Design is currently taking part in over fifty projects all around the globe.
An amazing player, a wise analyst and a successful businessman. It appears that Nick Faldo is the Jack of All Trades. Even though his playing career is dormant currently, there is no stopping his achievements.
