Nick Faldo objects at Ian Poulter’s obsession with Twitter
Englishman Ian Poulter can dismiss the claims much as he wants, the grizzled veteran Nick Faldo has a strong point when he raised his concerns about Poulter’s extensive tweeting habits on-course.
Faldo, 54, has been quite critical of the young English players in recent times and has criticised them time and again for their reckless behaviour in the sports.
Poulter suffered a terrible start of the current season, pulling in just one joint 45th at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
Faldo said, "Poults has just got too much going on, in my view. He's got the house in Orlando, which has taken years to build and he must have lost a fortune on given the way the market has gone".
Poulter had to bid adieu to the star-studded WGC Accenture Match Play Championship in Tucson, Arizona, last week, although being considered as a strong Match Play golfer in the world.
The Englishman won the Volvo World Match Play Championship in May last year, where he defeated the rampaging Luke Donald by 2 & 1.
For the moment, Poulter’s career is spiralling out of control and he is likely to fall out of top-50 on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) in coming months.
Poulter also runs a clothing company along with his wife and is often seen wearing chequered trousers on course.
His preoccupations have definitely taken a major chunk of his attention away from his primary obligation, triggering harsh analyses by veterans of the likes of Faldo.
Faldo further added, "He and his wife have just had their fourth child. He's got the worry of keeping his clothing company afloat and then there's the fact he's always tweeting like crazy".
Poulter, however, insisted that the six major winner Faldo has been misquoted by the press and has been quoted out of context.
The young Englishman has no fewer than 1.2-million fans on Tweeter and has one of the largest fan following on the social network.
Poulter said, "Don't panic complete false alarm I spoke to Faldo last night he was totally miss quoted".
36-year-old Poulter has 15 professional victories in his career since the time he turned professional in the year 1995.
He has been part of the European Tour since year 2000 and decided to join hands with the lucrative PGA Tour in 2005.
Poulter has played events across the world and has victories stretching as far as the Japan Tour, the Asian Tour and the PGA Tour of Australasia besides winning several titles on PGA and European Tours.
The season is warming up on both sides of the Atlantic as the calendar now heads towards the first major of the year, the Masters at Augusta National.
Poulter’s early exit at WGC Accenture Match Play Championship has been a big turn off for the English fans who were expecting a strong performance from the Hertfordshire native.
