Nick Flanagan and Bryan Bigley qualify for the Wells Fargo Championship – Golf News
Newcastle golfer Nick Flanagan will make his first start on the PGA Tour in more than three years, when he tees off at the Wells Fargo Championship, at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The qualifying round was played at the Donald Ross-designed Carolina Golf Club on Charlotte’s west side on Monday, April 30, 2012.
Flanagan is among the four players who qualified for the tournament through the Monday’s qualifying round at Quail Hollow.
He turned professional in 2004, and started playing on the Nationwide Tour. In 2007, he became the hottest player on the Tour, as he recorded a total of three victories.
Therefore, he was leading the Nationwide Tour’s money list at the end of the season, which earned him a place on the PGA Tour for 2008.
In the first two events he played on the PGA Tour, he finished 18th and 17th in the Fall Series events.
Thereafter, he started losing his form and failed to impress his fans, as he ended the season with the 169th on the money list.
As a result, he lost the PGA Tour card for 2009 and returned to Nationwide Tour. Yet, he was not able to regain his form and remained winless on the Nationwide Tour too.
Occasionally, he made some good finishes, including the second-place finish in the Midwest Classic in Kansas in 2011.
This year, he only participated in the Chile Classic Presented by Pacific Rubiales, where he missed the cut after carding a 71 in both the first two rounds.
He is now pleased to be a part of the elite field of the Wells Fargo Championship, which, according to him, will give a great boost to his confidence.
Meanwhile, Bryan Bigley, Raintree Country Club’s ground crew member and a professional golfer from New York, also made it to the Championship after recording a score of 64 in the qualifying round on Monday.
This will be his second appearance in the tournament, as he was also a part of last year’s edition of the event.
The tournament is scheduled officially start on Thursday, May 3, 2012.
