Nick Foles’ status against UCLA Bruins still unknown
Arizona Wildcats starting quarterback Nick Foles' status is still unknown heading into the club’s game against the UCLA Bruins on Saturday 30 October.
Foles was injured in a game against the Washington State Cougars on 16 October. The junior was injured in the pocket when a defensive player rolled over his leg, taking him out of the game. Foles went back home to Austin to recover for the week and was back
on the sidelines when the club took on the Washington Huskies on 23 October. However, Arizona head coach Mike Stoops said that Foles was only there to go through warm-ups with the club.
Foles’ injury has not been discussed in detail by the Arizona coaching staff, as Stoopes has maintained that the club is simply taking it day-by-day.
“You want him to be healthy and be able to protect himself and be able to do all the things he did prior to his injury,” said the head coach. “That is what you have to see: mobility to protect himself.”
Foles’ ankle has to be 100% for him to execute the Arizona game plan. The youngster has a great deal of mobility and speed and the squad’s approach has centred around his ability to move his feet effectively.
Fortunately for the Wildcats, back-up quarterback Matt Scott has proven to be an appropriate replacement for Foles. Scott started for Arizona last season and has been making the most of his opportunities this season. The junior got the start against Washington
and displayed his passing ability, throwing for 233 yard and an 81.8% completion rate. Moreover, the youngster was able to scamper for 65 yards on seven attempts.
Nevertheless, the Arizona coaching staff maintains that Foles is the club’s starter and as soon as he is healthy he will be back in the line-up.
So far this season Foles has thrown for 1,600 yards and nine touchdowns.
